Dubai Police ‘inducted’ the robotic police officer at the opening of the 4th Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC)-the Middle East’s largest cybersecurity event held in May at the Dubai World Trade Centre
“Robocop is an excellent example of the integration of facial recognition technology into a very forward thinking smart application,” says Paul Nicholas, CEO/President of CyberExtruder. Gulf News Crime staff reporter Ali Al Shouk notes Robocop can detect a person’s emotions and facial expressions — whether the individual is happy, sad, or smiling. He can also change his expression and greetings to put people at ease. Very cool stuff.
Robots have many advantages in the security sector. They can be deployed to “patrol” parking lots, perimeters, entrances, as well as public and private spaces at a fraction of the cost of human resources. With the addition of facial recognition capabilities, robots can identify people to grant or deny access (to a building or other facilities) as well as alert authorities if they “see” a missing person or another person of interest.
