The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) announced it will host a demonstration of biometric capabilities and systems for DHS Operations on Thursday, May 16 at the Maryland Test Facility in Upper Marlboro, Maryland as part of the 2019 Biometric Technology Rally.

This year’s rally has been designed to challenge industry to develop high-throughput biometric systems that provide fast and accurate user recognition for DHS operations and applications like security checkpoints. The 2019 Biometric Technology Rally is focused on face, iris, and fingerprint data collection systems, as well as biometric matching algorithms that can achieve the defined performance targets.

In addition to the demonstration on the 16th there is a stakeholders VIP day this Wednesday to allow government and private sector representatives to learn about industry participants and the systems. Rally testing begins on Thursday. DHS noted in its announcement that it will share the results of the rally to help industry improve product capabilities and enable the development of next-generation capabilities.

CyberExtruder and NEC Corporation of America have each announced that they are among the companies selected to participate in this year’s rally.

Representatives from more than 20 government agencies participated in the 2018 Biometric Technology Rally. During the course of the 10-day event, 364 volunteer test subjects performed a total of 4,368 individual system assessments of biometric systems from 11 industry participants representing 10 countries from around the world.
